#1. The Parental Unit
Despite the fact that we get into arguments almost everyday, at the end of the day I know that my parents are always there for me with endless love and support. My parents have had it rough while growing up, and their stories have inspired me to be the very best person I can be. They've inspired me to just go for my dreams and to never let anyone put me down. Everything I am doing from here on out is not only for me, but also for them. They've been my number one supporters since day 1 and I'd just like to thank them for that. They inspire me to just accomplish my dreams in life every single day.
#2. Aliya Jasmine Sovani
For a local journalist based in Toronto, Aliya Jasmine has come so far in her career. I've been a fan of hers since I started watching MTV Canada a while back. She is a host and segment producer at MTV Canada and has interviewed some of the biggest names and attended some of the biggest events. She's always travelling abroad - From LA to Paris, she goes everywhere! Asides from her daily segment producing/hosting, Aliya is also in charge of MTV's annual "Boobyball" - an event to raise awareness for breast cancer. During her spare time, Aliya travels to Afghan and teaches children English and social skills. In addition to that she's also created a documentary in Sudan about young girls being married off at a young age. Aliya Jasmine is basically living a part of my dream. Just seeing her do the things she loves and get so much recognition makes me even more motivated to pursue my career in journalism.
#3. Andersoon Cooper
"These people deserve to have the world watching what is happening to them" - Anderson Cooper
Who doesn't love this man, seriously! He's such a well known journalist - but that's not the reason why I think of him as one of my inspirations. If you've read about Anderson Cooper, you know he has quite a story. As a baby he was photographed to be featured on Harper's Baazar, he made his first TV appearance at the age of 3, he modeled with Ford Models for Ralph Lauren, Macy's and Calvin Klein. Also, while growing up he lost his dad due to heart problems and also his brother because of suicide. Throughout his years in school, Anderson technically had no form of Journalistic education. How he got into the journalism field is through hard work, determination and motivation. He knew that he no longer wanted to work for an agency and instead wanted to pursue a career in journalism. Keeping his motive in mind, Anderson went out and pursued his dreams. Just look at how far he's gotten to this day - not only is he a journalist, but he's also a tv personality and author.
#4. Angelina Jolie
When it comes to my inspirations, I'm not just going to share with you all my journalism inspirations. While others may think of Angelina Jolie as a "freak" because of her dark past, I think otherwise. Just hearing her story and looking at where she is now in her life amazes me. Everyone is aware of Angelina's "dark past" but what about the humanitarian work she has done? And just look at what a great mother she is. So what if she suffered from depression, drugs and at one point even hired a hitman to kill her. To me, her past and her present is such an inspiration. Just knowing she went through all of that and has made it through even the roughest times gives me a reason to believe that anyone can get through the worst hardships, all they have to do is be strong and keep their head up.
I have many other inspirations, but these four are at the top of the list as of now. Maybe for futures posts I'll share the rest that happen to be on my list, but it's time for me to get off my laptop and go do some chores.
XO
